Saint Augustine:

Saint Augustine: Five centuries of stories in America’s oldest city

The Spaniards were either clever or lucky. Had they tried to plant a colony in Southeastern Florida in 1565 instead of in San Augustin (St. Augustine), they would have encountered the fierce and organized Calusa people and probably defeat. Instead, they met with several Timucuan Chiefdoms who, although resistant to their settlement, were not well militarized. And St. Augustine survived. Today, it is the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in North America and we are about to experience one of her most unique cities. Where else can one find an old-world Spanish fortress on the American mainland sharing a city with gilded age Victorian hotels, cobbled streets and 1950’s Americana curiosity shops and attractions? But we are getting ahead of ourselves.

Day 1

First to Savannah, a place that was too beautiful to burn

Our first stop, a perfect respite for our road trip, is Savannah, Georgia. There, an evening with new friends and great cuisine plays out as the epitome of Southern hospitality and historic ambience. After dinner there will be time to explore Savannah’s historic River Street and famous City Market. (L,D)

Day 2

Time to follow Flagler’s lead

This morning, we will take you on a leisurley stroll to Forsyth Park. While taking in the beauty of Savannah’s oak lined streets and squares we will point out highlights from the popular book and movie “Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil” and give you a chance to sit on Forest Gumps bench… You may want to have a movie night before this trip! In the afternoon we’re off to St. Augustine. Tonight we check into one of Henry Flagler’sFlorida gems, the Casa Monica, where we will be staying the next three thrilling nights. (B,L,D)

Day 3

Feeling young in America’s oldest city

Day three is a full day of exploration in St.
Augustine. We will be stopping at the
Fountain of Youth for anyone who wishes to return to their teenage years. And
tonight…well, tonight is a journey to a
celebrated little restaurant outside of town with a fun, folksy reputation. (B,L,D)

Day 4

History comes alive on these cobbled streets

Today brings more historic discovery including a visit to the renowned Lightner Museum, several well-selected historic venues and dinner at O.C. White’s Seafood & Spirits. After dinner there will be another one of those little surprises that we like to spring on you. (B,L,D)

Day 5

An invasion is expected, so the Spaniards are advising us to leave…time to go!

After breakfast, we are off again to the Carolina’s and the fun is only put on hold…until the next exciting ACT-venture!! (B,L)
